METHOD FOR PRODUCING FLUOROPHOR, THE RESULTANT FLUOROPHOR, LIGHT-EMITTING DEVICE, LIGHT EMITTER, IMAGE DISPLAY, AND ILLUMINATOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suitable method for producing a fluorophor having high emission efficiency when emitting red fluorescence on absorbing ultraviolet to blue light in particular.

SOLUTION: The fluorophor is such that an activator element such as Eu is contained in a matrix compound containing a bivalent metal element such as Sr, a trivalent metal element such as Y and sulfur. The method for producing the fluorophor comprises heating a raw material compound containing the metal elements constituting the fluorophor in the presence of sulfur simple substance or a sulfur-containing compound and carbon simple substance or a carbon-containing compound.
