<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire excellent in maneuverability and kink resistance, and the production method of the guide wire. <P>SOLUTION: The guide wire 1 has a wire main body 10 having a welding section 14 which connects by welding the first linear wire 2 arranged on the tip side and the second linear wire 3, which is arranged on the proximal end side and consists of materials (for example, stainless steel) having a larger elastic modulus than constituting materials (for example, a superelastic alloy) of the first wire 2. The circumference of the wire main body 10 has a coating layer 5 prepared so as to cover at least the welding section 14 and the second coating layer (a tip side coating layer) 6, which is prepared on the tip side of the coating layer 5 and consists of materials differing from the coating layer 5.
