PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device for shortening release time lag. SOLUTION: The focusing device comprises: a first switching means for starting the focusing device; a second switching means for performing exposure operation; and a control means for allowing an exposure device to take a photograph by finishing search operation from the search operation up to a prescribed focal distance before reaching the prescribed focal distance previously setting positions of focusing lens groups when the second switching means is operated before the search operation is finished, immediately finishing the search operation after reaching the prescribed focal distance, moving the focusing lens groups to the focusing position when detecting the focusing position by the search operation after finishing the search operation, and remaining the focusing lens groups at the prescribed focal distances when not detecting the focusing positions.
