486,685. Separating gases by liquefaction. GES. FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN AKT.-GES. Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5598. Convention date, March 26, 1936. [Class 8 (ii)] In a heat-storage device through which fresh gas and cold decomposition products from its liquefaction and rectification pass alternately, (1) the heat capacity of the storing material measured in kilogram-calories is taken between 0.05 and 0.02 of its surface measured in square metres ; (2) the amount of heat transferred per degree centigrade difference of temperature is maintained at or over one-fifth of the amount actually transferred in the same period of time ; this may be effected by choice of spacing of the spiral metal heat storage strips so that the air velocity is at least one metre per second. The heat capacity in the different temperature zones may be selected to increase or decrease with the corresponding variation in the specific heat of the gases flowing through that part ; the heat capacity of the whole storing material may be eight times that of the gas passing through in any one period. |
