<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm soil on a window part by forming such a cavity that the whole window part of an optical scanner can be directly viewed from the outside in the case of detaching an image carrier unit which is replaceable and freely attachable/detachable, and to easily clean the window part if soiled. <P>SOLUTION: The user opens a front cover 12A and an upper cover 12B, and extends his/her hand into the cavity and wipes up the upper surface of a transparent glass 34 with a cleaning member 66. Since the wiping work can be performed from the front side of the apparatus, and also, the large working cavity can be obtained, the user's hand can easily extend and reach the transparent glass 34, consequently, the work can be efficiently performed. That is, almost the works such as the replacement of a drum cartridge 38, a toner cartridge 58 and the cleaning of the transparent glass 34 can be performed from the front side of the apparatus, and even in condition that there is no room in the width direction of the installation space and on the inner side thereof, the works can be performed in the installed state, and also, from the front side where the user usually instructs an image forming operation, consequently, the maintenance work efficiency is improved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
