<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive system with enhanced practicality in energy efficiency improvement. <P>SOLUTION: An inverter unit 20 includes a semiconductor switch 19-1 connected between the input end and one end of an armature coil 17; a semiconductor switch 19-2 connected between the other end of the armature coil 17 and the output end; a semiconductor switch 19-3 connected between the input end and the other end of the armature coil 17; and a semiconductor switch 19-4 connected between the one end of the armature coil 17 and the output end.
