PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication apparatus, a method of controlling its communication, a program, and a storage medium, through which a PLC communication mode is easily set up without interposing the other apparatuses or additionally mounting a PLC communication ON/OFF switch. SOLUTION: When a power supply plug 101 is connected to a wall socket, a polarity judging unit 102 judges whether a connection direction is a positive electrode side or a negative positive side. The judgement result is outputted to a filter unit 103. The filter unit 103 switches the operating state of a filter from operative to inoperative and vice versa, corresponding to the judgement result outputted from the polarity judging unit 102.
