PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a failure due to the shortage of a remaining capacity of a recording medium in the case of converting a still picture into a moving picture and recording the moving picture. SOLUTION: A format converting device 32 converts still picture data read from a disk-like recording medium 28 into moving picture data. A record data capacity calculating device 34 calculates the capacity of the moving picture data generated by the format converting device 32. A disk remaining capacity calculating device 36 calculates a recordable remaining capacity of the disk-like recording medium 28. A data amount of for one still picture in a still picture recording mode or a moving picture data amount for a prescribed time in a moving picture recording mode is added to the data capacity of the moving picture data.
