PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing apparatus configured to reduce a release time lag, in which a half mirror is arranged in a photographing optical path, and which is capable of displaying a through-image. SOLUTION: The movable half mirror is made movable between an enter position in the photographing optical path and a retreat position outside the photographing optical path, and in reply to the half-depression of a release button, a photographing preparation operation is started, and the movable half mirror is made to enter the photographing optical path (S65), a range finding operation is performed by a range finding sensor (S69), after the range finding operation, the movable half mirror is retreated outside the photographing optical path (S71).
