PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device in which excessive temperature rise is easily and surely prevented by self-temperature control of an exoergic member without delaying the start-up of the device, the structure of the exoergic member is simple, and the occurrence of the excessive temperature rise at both ends in the transverse direction of the exoergic member is prevented even when small-sized paper is continuously fed, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: There are provided a magnetic field generating means for generating AC magnetic fields and the exoergic member including an exoergic layer 23 having a prescribed Curie point and generating heat by the AC magnetic fields. The exoergic layer 23 is so formed that the layer thickness M2 at both ends in the transverse direction is different from the layer thickness M1 in the central part in the transverse direction.
