[Class 80 (ii)] Change-speed gearing for motor-vehicles comprises a constant-mesh pair 4, 14 constantly driving a countershaft 7 and at least three other constant-mesh pairs 10, 1 and 12, 2 and 13, 3 of which the pair 10, 1 adjacent the pair 4, 14 is for the lowest, or one of the lowest speeds, and the wheel 1 is loose on a driven shaft 6, and all the other wheels 2, 3 upon the shaft 6 are fixed to rotate with that shaft. There is a doubleended clutch 17 between the gears 4, 1 and another 18 on the countershaft 7 between the gears 12, 13. The outmost pair 13, 3 is close to the casing wall. A gear 16 shown is for reversed driving. |
