The bogie has a bolster and a pair of side frames with end pedestals providing mounting interfaces with bearings on the ends of wheel axles. Each pedestal has a seat accepting a bearing adapter 444 for interposition between the seat and a bearing casing. To spread the load on the adapter and rollers in the bearing, it has a relief 448 in its surface facing the bearing casing, the relief being at top dead centre and extending above one of both races of the bearing, so that the surface either side bears the loading. The relief may be separated into two parts separated by a centre land or be intersected by a circumferential relief 446 to provide four lands. The bogie can have a longitudinal self steering capability. The self steering capability may be obtained by use of a longitudinally oriented rocker that may tend to permit resistance to deflection that is proportional to the weight carried across the interface.
