DOUBLE SIDE ILLUMINATION APPARATUS FOR A DISPLAY DEVICE AND DUAL DISPLAY DEVICE EMPLOYING THE SAME

A double-sided illumination apparatus for a display device and a double-sided display device employing the same are provided to construct the illumination apparatus to output lights through upper and lower surfaces of the illumination apparatus to supply lights to two display devices with a single illumination apparatus without loss of light. An isotropic light guiding plate(31) has an incident surface(31a) to which a light emitted from a light source(32) is incident, a facing surface(31b) facing the incident surface, an upper surface(31c) for outputting the light, and a lower surface(31d). Isotropic fine structures(33) are respectively formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the isotropic light guiding plate. A first anisotropic layer(34) and a second anisotropic layer(35) are respectively formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the isotropic light guiding plate to cover the fine structures completely. The fist and second anisotropic layers have different refractive indexes with respect to first and second polarization components perpendicular to each other.
