A spinning preparation machine with a clothed roller 4 is located opposite at least one clothed component 14, there is associated with the component a piezoelectric sensor 302 arranged to detect structure borne sound, the sensor is connected to an electrical evaluation device which determines the intensity of contact between fibre and the clothing of the clothed component. A display device and/or switching device may be provided as an output to the evaluation device. A high pass filter may be used to remove unnecessary noise and Fourier analysis may be performed by the evaluation device. The sensor may be used on a carding machine with a flat card 14 or a roller card. Various methods of attaching the sensor to the machine are disclosed including magnets, screws and adhesives. |
