An ultra precision vertical transfer device of a tool machine and a transfer method thereof are provided to reduce a friction occurring during the vertical transferring process by converting a load of a Y-axis slide and compensating for the load by using an air bearing cylinder. An ultra precision vertical transfer device of a tool machine comprises a Y-axis slide(20), a bridge(60) which is coupled to an upper part of the Y-axis slide and has a rectangular shape, a load cell for detecting a load of the Y-axis slide, a regulator and an air bearing cylinder(50). The Y-axis slide moves along a guide way together with an actuating spindle. The regulator provides a predetermined air pressure corresponding to the load of the Y-axis slide. The air bearing cylinder includes a cylinder body supported by a bracket(90) and lifts the Y-axis slide by receiving a control signal of the regulator.
