The starting end (3) of a new roll of flat-wound tubular film is joined to the tail end (4) of the previously used film by means of a tongues (7) formed by a slits (8) in the sides. The tongues are tucked in and joined by welds (29) at the folded inner sides (17). The width of the tongue (7) corresponds roughly to the width of the inner folded side (17). An independent claimS are also included for the following: (1) An analogous process where the sides are slit to provide an overlap across the whole width of the film, followed by welding at the sides; (2) A packaging plant supplied by tubular film on a reel that includes a cutting and joining station using this process. The weld (29) can be made ultrasonically, the welding anvil (14) being inserted from the side into the fold. The film can be positioned by suction or electrostatic handling devices. |
