A putting practice device comprises upper and lower substantially parallel discs 4, 5 spaced by a spool 1 and adapted to receive a golf ball between them. At least one of the discs, preferably the upper disc 4, is resiliently mounted on the spool 1 such that the disc tilts when a ball enters the space between the discs. A spring 3 is provided to bias the discs towards one another, and the upper end of the spool may be tapered (13, fig. 8) in order to allow the upper disc 4 to tilt. The ball receiving surface (56, fig. 3c and 45, fig. 4c) of at least one of the discs may be provided with one or more grooves (54, fig. 3c and 44, fig. 4c), e.g. concentric circular grooves (110, fig. 11a) or a spiral groove (111, fig. 11b) which grip the ball when it enters the space between the discs. At least one of the discs may be conical in cross-section, with the lower disc 4 preferably being conical such that a ball gripped between the discs may be released by tilting the upper disc and allowing the ball to roll down the lower disc. |
