<p>For display using a plasma display panel including a screen made up of cells each of which has an address discharge portion controlled by a scan electrode and a data electrode and a priming discharge portion that is controlled by the scan electrode and an auxiliary electrode and tends to generate a discharge more easily than the address discharge portion, in a period when addressing operation is performed, scan pulses are applied to the scan electrodes sequentially, in parallel with the application of the scan pulses, address pulses are selectively applied to the data electrodes depending on display data, and potential of the auxiliary electrodes is so controlled that discharges are generated in the priming discharge portions in the cells of a selected row responsive to the application of the scan pulses to the scan electrodes irrespective of whether or not the address pulses are applied to the data electrodes.</p> |
