An apparatus and a method for controlling brightness of a light emitting diode are provided to reduce a brightness difference of the light emitting diode and prevent the light emitting diode element from being damaged due to over current by applying power having current below rated current to the light emitting diode. An apparatus for controlling brightness of a light emitting diode comprises the following parts: a temperature sensing unit(105) for sensing peripheral temperature of the light emitting diode; an operation control unit(107) for controlling an operation of the light emitting diode according to the sensed peripheral temperature; and a temperature setting unit(201) for setting reference temperature. The operation control unit controls an operation of the light emitting diode using the reference temperature and the sensed peripheral temperature. |
