A hot air staking apparatus 1 for assembling a thermo-plastic part with another part includes an air input 12 for receiving air from a blower 11. A heater 7 heats the blown air, and a manifold system 6 directs the heated air onto one or more predetermined portions of a thermo-plastic part to heat it/them. A former 9 then deforms the heated predetermined portion to assemble the thermo-plastic part with the other part. A controller (14) is coupled to the blower 11 for variably controlling the blower 11 to adjust the amount of air blown into the air input and for controlling the heater 7 to heat the air to the desired temperature. Since both the blower and the heater can be continuously adjusted, the energy used can be minimised. A later embodiment relates to a hot air staking method using the above apparatus. |
