The present invention discloses a design and improvement in an electronic lamp for illuminating the interior of mining facilities and locating mining workers, herein referred to as SIM-TAG-1, which is a solid-state device comprising a lamp head with a highly-bright light-emitting diode (LED), as well as a set of rechargeable lithium ion batteries, an electronic control circuit, an emergency lamp also including a LED and a Radio Frequency (RF) transmission system as a locating means, the batteries, the electronic control circuit and the emergency lamp being arranged in a battery housing. It is further disclosed an electronic battery charger, which allows the lamp to be fully charged within a 3.5 to 4 hours period. It is an object of the present invention to provide a lamp different from those currently available on the market, being characterized in that it is lighter and less voluminous due to the batteries and materials employed, maintenance free due to the LEDs which have more tha n 100,000 hours life span and to the lithium ion batteries with more than 800 charging-discharging cycles, and in that it is useful for locating mining workers due to the RF transmission system, a SIM-RX TAG-reading system and a SIM-PLOT system integral therewith.
