PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the overcharge safety of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery used by being charged to a high potential, and to suppress the swelling of the battery when the battery is charged at a high potential and preserved at a high temperature.

SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte having a nonaqueous solvent and an electrolytic salt. The potential of the positive electrode is 4.4 to 5.1 V and the nonaqueous electrolyte contains a compound represented by R1OCOC≡CCOOR2 (R1 and R2 each independently denote an alkyl group having ≤3 carbon atoms.).
