<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gray level correction apparatus capable of performing more effective gray level correction even on a region which is dark and may be relatively gradation in black, and on a region which is bright and may be in a void phenomenon. <P>SOLUTION: A local average luminance value of input image data in a local region in a screen is obtained (102), a backlight level (202) is calculated from the distribution of a gray level frequency in luminance values of the input image data over all the screen (101) and the local average luminance value (204) and the backlight level (202) are used to determine conversion conditions for converting the gray level of the input image data (103). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
