PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data backup device for keeping the data of a copy destination up-to-date and drastically reducing a period of time needed to transfer data through a communication line. SOLUTION: The data backup device comprises a primary data center 100 for executing a business application and a secondary data center 200 for backing up the primary data center. Host computers 101 and 201 of the data centers use a data copying means comprising either initial data identical type copying means 104 or 204, initial data semi-identical type copying means 105 or 205 and initial data semi-identical type non-stop copying means 106 or 206 or combinations of them to collectively copy data. Contents of a storage device 117 of a copy source to be thereafter stored are copied and transferred to a storage device 217 of a copy destination by a data duplication function of a storage device 109 to thereby always store the latest data in the storage device 217 of the copy destination.
