PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to greatly reduce a useless ink consumption amount by enabling selective performance of the suction action or pressurization action for each nozzle. SOLUTION: The liquid ejector is equipped with a plurality of nozzles which eject a liquid, a hydrophilic/water repellent transition region which is formed in an opening periphery of each nozzle of a nozzle opening surface and can shift a hydrophilic state and a water repellent state each other, a switching means which turns the hydrophilic/water repellent transition region to be hydrophilic or water repellent, and a pressure control means which controls a pressure difference between inside and outside of the nozzle. While the hydrophilic/water repellent transition region in the opening periphery of an abnormal nozzle is turned hydrophilic, and moreover the hydrophilic/water repellent transition region in the opening periphery of a normal nozzle is turned water repellent, the pressure control means controls the pressure difference between inside and outside of the nozzle so that a meniscus is maintained at the opening of the normal nozzle.
