<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator wherein the rotating motion of an output shaft is restricted when an external load is operated on the output shaft at stopping operation, and to provide a variable valve structure for an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The actuator comprises an outer rotor 31 to be rotated with a motor, an inner shaft 21 inserted into the outer rotor 31 for outputting rotating motion thereto, a clutch cam 27, a spring 36, and a brake mechanism 25. The clutch cam 27 moves the inner shaft 21 from a first position to a second position in the axial direction when relative rotating motion occurs between the outer rotor 31 and the inner shaft 21. The spring 36 energizes the inner shaft 21 toward the first position. The brake mechanism 25 restricts the rotation of the inner shaft 21 when the inner shaft 21 is at the first position, and permits the rotation of the inner shaft 21 when it is at the second position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
