PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding attitude evaluation device capable of more accurately evaluating winding attitude of a strip in the state that it is actually wound on a reel and performing evaluation without taking out the strip by disassembling a case and making a surface opposed to a winding surface of the case and the reel transparent. SOLUTION: The winding attitude evaluation device 20A is a device for evaluating winding attitude of a magnetic tape MT in a magnetic tape cartridge MC provided with the magnetic tape MT wound on the reel 2 and a cartridge case 1 for storing the reel 2 and the magnetic tape MT and having a magnetic tape drawing out port 1C on a side surface opposed to an outer peripheral surface of the wound magnetic tape MT. The device is provided with a laser type displacement sensor 22A for detecting radial height of the outer peripheral surface of the magnetic tape MT from the magnetic tape drawing out port 1C; and a winding attitude evaluation part 23b for evaluating the winding attitude based on the detected radial height.
