A method for detecting connection of remote power supply and a line powering method and system. The system includes an office side power supply (1), a remote power supply (2) and a service line (7) connecting the office-side and remote power supplies. The remote power supply has a characteristic capacitor, and the office side power supply has a clocking circuit (10) and a comparing loop (8, 9). The comparing loop, the service line and the characteristic capacitor compose a resistor-capacitor charge and discharge circuit. The clocking circuit controls the charge and discharge according to the output level of the comparing loop, judges whether the remote power supply is connected according to the discharge time of the charge and discharge circuit, and indicates a powering module to supply the remote power supply when it is connected.
