PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nanodiamond having high dispersibility in water even when the mean particle diameter of the nanodiamond is comparatively large, for example, when it produced by a high temperature and high pressure method, having a smaller particle diameter by dispersion processing and having a controlled surface chemical structure. SOLUTION: The nanodiamond has a mean particle diameter of 6-200 nm and has dispersibility in a supernatant liquid of 5 ml at 20°C being centrifugally separated from a suspension obtained by adding ultrapure water of 8 ml to the nanodiamond of 120 mg of 0.35 mg/ml or more.
