PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark plug for an internal combustion engine excelling in fuel accumulation resistance and fuel bridge resistance. SOLUTION: This spark plug 1 for an internal combustion engine has: a mounting fitting 4 having an outer periphery with a mounting screw part 42 formed therein; an insulating insulator 2 retained on the central axis side of the mounting fitting 4; a center electrode 3 retained on the center axis side of the insulating insulator 2; and a ground electrode 5 joined to the mounting fitting 4 and forming a spark discharge gap 11 between the tip of the center electrode 3 and itself. The ground electrode 5 includes a facing surface 51 to the center electrode 3 intersecting perpendicularly with the central axis of the spark plug 1.
