PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a magnetic paint in which super fine particulate magnetic powder are satisfactorily dispersed, and to provide a magnetic recording medium which has excellent high density recording characteristics by using the magnetic paint obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the magnetic paint containing the magnetic powder having average particle diameter of <50 nm and a binder resin includes a dispersion step by a dispersion machine having a pair of dispersion surfaces opposed to each other at a prescribed interval and relatively transferred at a prescribed speed and a dispersion step by a media type dispersion machine.
