The clutch, in a motor vehicle transmission train, is opened automatically on an overload at the electromotor actuator and/or its control by disconnecting its current supply. Before the current supply is interrupted, the actuator travels along a movement path until it reaches a path threshold value where there is a non-electrical clutch return force to give a path end value where the clutch can be closed. The actuator is operated by a current and/or voltage, within defined threshold values so that the temperature of the actuator and/or its control remains constant or sinks.
