<p>The method involves determining air mass supplied to an internal combustion engine in a predetermined operating condition by a theoretical model. The utilized model is selected depending on the operating condition of the internal combustion engine, such that the determined air mass is corrected based on data measured in an exhaust gas stream. A laval-nozzle model is utilized in a partial load operation for determining the air mass supplied to the engine. A manifold pressure is determined in a full load operation by the theoretical model for determining the air mass.</p>
