PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active muffler characterized by simple design, in the active muffler 1 for an exhaust system 2 of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This muffler 1 has a first space 3 and a second space 4 separated from the first space 3 by a partition wall 5. A wall opening 6 exists in the partition wall 5, and an electronic sound absorber 7 having a chassis 8 and a diaphragm 9 is inserted there. In operation, the electronic sound absorber 7 emits a reaction sound to the first space 3, and reduces generation of noise by the exhaust system 2.
