PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external hard disk drive provided with an information security function controlled by a mechanical lock. SOLUTION: The external hard disk drive connected to a computer system by a signal cable and connected to a power feeder by an electric cord is provided with: a housing provided with a front plate and a back plate; a hard disk unit installed in the housing and having a hard disk and a switch, wherein the hard disk is accessible when the switch is turned on and the hard disk is not accessible when the switch is turned off; and the mechanical lock installed at the front plate of the housing and provided with a lock core driven to a lock release position where the switch is turned on and a lock position where the switch is turned off by a key.
