PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas lighter capable of surely extinguishing fire even when embers exist because of failure in returning motion caused by clogging of dust in a nozzle movable portion after use. SOLUTION: This gas lighter for injecting a fuel gas from an injection nozzle 6 by operating an operation button 4, and igniting the fuel gas by operating an ignition mechanism, comprises a fire extinction mechanism composed of a fire extinction member 1 composed of flat plate-shaped cover members 10a, 10b formed at a lower end of one face, inverted triangular partitioning plates 11a, 11b formed on the other face, having tilted plates 12a, 12b, expanded upward and divided into two, and an U-shaped frame body 15 bendably supporting top portions of the tilted plates 12a, 12b, and the operation button 4 provided with a sliding member 41 for sliding two tilted plates 12a, 12b projecting to the neighborhood of a top portion of the face opposed to the fire extinction member 1 for opening and closing the partitioning plates 11a, 11b, and the two cover members 10a, 10b are opened and closed in the opposite directions to each other on the injection nozzle 6 in interlocking with the operation of the operation button 4.
