PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an increase of a resistance between a collector and a polarized electrode layer and to enhance a reliability of an electric double layer capacitor. SOLUTION: In the electric double layer capacitor, polarized electrodes are formed with polarized electrode layers 4a, 4b composed of an activated carbon powder, carbon black and a binder in collectors 3a, 3b composed of a metal foil, and the polarized electrodes are opposite to each other through separators 5a, 5b immersed with an electrolytic solution to form an anode and a cathode, and these are housed in a case 8. Conductive barrier layers 6a, 6b are provided between the collectors 3a, 3b and the polarized electrode layers 4a, 4b, for protecting a collector from corrosive ions which are an electrolyte in the electrolytic solution.
