PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately copes with the case where the bottom material is not accurately inserted, in a bag making machine which passes a bottom material 8 through a cut and opened part 7 of a body material and inserts it into the body material, in each operation of the intermittent feeding of the body material 2 with a body part 3 and a side gusset part 4. SOLUTION: The bottom material comprises a bottom gusset part, an auxiliary gusset part, and a protrusive part. When the bottom material is inserted into the body material, the bottom gusset part and the auxiliary gusset part are arranged between both layers of the body part; the side gusset part is arranged between both layers of the auxiliary gusset part; and the protrusive part is protruded from the cut and opened part of the body material. After the insertion of the bottom material, the cut and opened part and the protrusive part are irradiated with light from a light source 25; the light is blocked by one layer of the body part; the shadow of one layer of the body part appears on the surface of the protrusive part; the light is blocked by a leading end of the protrusive part; and the shadow of the leading end of the protrusive part appears on the surface of the body material.
