PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an "AV apparatus and a control method thereof" capable of stably ensuring a sufficient reception electric field strength with respect to a voice signal received via an antenna of a portable device contained in the AV apparatus. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 18 acquires the reception electric field strength of the portable device 20 and drives a motor driver 16 in response to the reception electric field strength so as to control a degree of an opening of a display apparatus 15. When the display apparatus 15 shields a built-in antenna 22 of the portable device 20 resulting in that the reception electric field strength is decreased, the display apparatus 15 is automatically opened so as to ensure a sufficient reception electric field strength thereby capable of preventing occurrence of voice interruption in the case of, e.g. a hands-free speech.
