PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cheap ultrasonic sensor provided with simple structure capable of detecting an obstruction in an arbitrary direction regardless of fixing position. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic sensor includes: a thin plate-like vibration disc 12 of aspect ratio other than 1:1 for radiation or receiving the ultrasonic waves; a plurality of driving elements 13a and 13b arranged in a longitudinal direction on the vibration disc; and a control circuit 2 for controlling the radiating direction of the ultrasonic wave by generating the progressive waves by successively driving each of the plurality of driving elements while shifting the phase, and based on the ultrasonic sound received by the vibration disc, the detection direction is controlled by successively synchronous detecting while shifting the phase of the plurality of signals generated in the plurality of driving elements.
