PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine capable of reducing the outside diameter of a hole to be excavated. SOLUTION: This shield machine 1 is constituted in such a way that a slide plate 10 is provided on an inner side of a tail plate 3 on a skin plate 2 by opposing to its inner peripheral face, an outer form 9 is provided on the slide plate 10 along the circumferential direction, the slide plate 10 is slidably provided on a guide pipe 14 protruding from the inner peripheral face of the skin plate 2, a tube 17 for contracting diameter is provided between an outer peripheral face of the slide plate 10 and the inner peripheral face of the skin plate 2, a tube 16 for extending diameter is provided among collar pieces 12 at both ends of the slide plate 10 and receiving pieces 15 suspended from an inner peripheral face of the tail plate 3 and opposing to the inner faces of the collar pieces, the tube 17 for contracting diameter is contracted when the outer form 9 is extended due to expansion of the tube 16 for extending diameter, and the tube 16 for extending diameter is contracted when the outer form 9 is contracted due to expansion of the tube 17 for contracting diameter.
