A method and an apparatus for calculating a likelihood metric of a received signal in a digital communication system are provided to minimize degradation in a calculation power of the communication synchronous by considering a channel estimation value while calculating the likelihood metric. An apparatus for calculating a likelihood metric of a received signal in a digital communication system includes a channel estimator(910), a channel compensator(920), a region variable calculator(930), a comparator(940), and a bit metric calculator(950). The channel estimator estimates a channel of a received signal and generates a channel estimation value. The channel compensator compensates for the channel of the received signal based on the channel estimation value. The region variable calculator calculates the region variable according to the channel estimation value. The comparator compares the magnitudes of the region variable and the compensated received signal with each other. The bit metric calculator calculates metric for the respective bits of the received signal. |
