PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual layer pattern coating forming method which enables easy formation of a pattern coating with a three-dimensional feeling and a luxury feeling, and with different colors and/or material feelings. SOLUTION: The dual layer pattern coating forming method comprises (1) a process for applying a first colored base coating material to a material to be coated, (2) a process for applying a second colored base coating material, which can form a coating with color and material feeling different from those of the first colored base coating material, and has a solid content of coated coating material of 30-60 mass% after 30 seconds after coating, onto the uncured coating of the first colored base coating material so as to expose a part of a first colored base coating, and (3) a process for applying a top clear coating material onto the first colored base coating and second colored base coating with or without curing them, and curing the top clear coating material.
