PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner with a function capable of selecting the wavelength of light to be used for dust detection corresponding to dust detection sensitivity setting. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner comprises a light emitting means 1 for emitting the light into an air path where dust flows, a light receiving means 2 for receiving the light of the light emitting means 1 and outputting signals corresponding to a received light quantity, a sensitivity setting means 6 for setting the detection sensitivity of the dust, and a wavelength setting means 8 for setting the transmissivity of the wavelength of the light of the light emitting means 1 and the light receiving means 2 according to the set value. The wavelength of the light used in the light transmitting means 1 and the light receiving means 2 can be changed corresponding to the set sensitivity, and even fine dust can be surely detected.
