New dithio compounds are [1,3]dithietan-2-yl, [1,3]dithiolan-2-yl-, [1,3]dithian-2-yl-, [1,3]dithiepan-2-yl- and [1,3]-dithiocan-2-yl-(cyclo)alkan-dione compounds (IA). New dithio compounds are [1,3]dithietan-2-yl, [1,3]dithiolan-2-yl-, [1,3]dithian-2-yl-, [1,3]dithiepan-2-yl- and [1,3]-dithiocan-2-yl-(cyclo)alkan-dione compounds of formula (IA). A, B : H or together form a double bond; R1>, R7> together : 1-5 C alkylidene, with 0, 1 or 2, optionally different, substituents; R8>, R9> independently : (cyclo)alkyl, (cyclo)alkoxy, aryl(oxy), (cyclo)alkylsulfanyl, arylsulfanyl, amino or mono- or di-alkylamino or together form a divalent bridging group with 1-10 atoms between the flanking bonds . Independent claims are included for (1) use of a branched and cyclic, (un)saturated organic sulfur compounds (I) with a wider range of substituents for protecting non-living organic material from the damaging effect of light, heat and/or oxygen; (2) compositions containing compound(s) (I) and polymer(s).
