<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a write protection function installed in a memory card. <P>SOLUTION: A memory card 20 includes a controller 21, a nonvolatile semiconductor memory 22, and a switch 23. The switch 23 includes three contact points to be selected (contact points 231, 232, and 233 to be selected), a common contact point 234, and an external switch 235. By the user's switching operation for the external switch 235, the common contact point 234 and one of the contact points to be selected are connected, and one of the write protection states set up by a host apparatus 10 is selected.
