<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which can reduce bluishness produced in a black display. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal display element 100 having: a liquid crystal layer 4 containing liquid crystal molecules oriented so as to assume a bend alignment when an image display is being made; and at least one retardation plate for compensating for a retardation of the liquid crystal layer, wherein the display is made by varying the retardation of the liquid crystal layer 4 in accordance with video signals input from outside to vary the transmittance of the liquid crystal display element 100 to light for display. The liquid crystal display is characterized in that the retardation plate includes negative uniaxial retardation plates 12a and 12b, wherein any of respective refractive indexes in three axis directions of the negative uniaxial retardation plates are ≥1.45 and ≤1.50. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
