PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a magnetic head which precisely forms the magnetic head provided with a write head where recording coils are formed in two or more stages. SOLUTION: The method is provided with a step of forming a tip magnetic pole 12a formed at the tip of a lower magnetic pole 12 and a coil 14a of the first layer on the surface of a substrate and thereafter polishing the whole surface of the substrate to form the whole surface of the substrate including the surface of the tip magnetic pole 12a and that of the coil 14a of the first layer to be a uniform and flat surface; a process of coating a section excepting for an area of electrically insulating the coil 14a of the first layer from the coil of the second layer with a resist 30; a process of coating the whole surface of the substrate to which the resist 30 is adhered, with an insulating layer 24; a process of removing the insulating layer 24 with the resist 30 from a section coated with the resist 30 by lifting off; and a process of forming the coil of the second layer on the insulating layer 24 formed on the substrate.
