PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound which exhibits high thickening nature and, when used for a cosmetic or a toiletry product, it has good sense of use, and which is excellent in thickening and emulsion stability. SOLUTION: A silane compound having a monovalent hydrocarbon group having an amino group and X<SB>3</SB>Si- (X is an alkoxy group) reacts to a C terminal of an amino acid having structure (1) (in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are H, a 1-22C alkyl group or the like; and n is a number of 1-10,000), and a silane compound having a monovalent hydrocarbon group having a specific functional group in a molecule and Z<SB>3</SB>Si- (Z is an alkoxy group) reacts to an N terminal of the amino acid, and thereby a disilane compound is prepared. The disilane compound is hydrolyzed, and condensed, to thereby produce a polymer. A thickening agent comprises the polymer. The cosmetic contains the polymer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
