The present invention relates to a process for preparing a composition of dimethyl isosorbide (DMI) by etherification of a composition of isosorbide with methyl chloride in the presence of an alkaline agent, characterized in that it contains at least one step of introduction of a composition of dimethyl isosorbide (DMI) into the reaction medium.
